CPL (E4) to SGT (E5) Promotion Worksheet

General Rules to each promotion:
  • You will have to complete all the tasks that are written on the back
  • After you have gotten signed off on all of those tasks then you will need to get tested by your Platoon Sergeant, then your First Sergeant, then your Company Commanders, and finally the instructor
  • For this test all you will need to do is stand either at attention or at ease, and repeat their rank back to them as well as the question and its answer: for example, if the question is being asked by your First Sergeant and the question is “What is the rank of One stripe up?”, you would respond with “First Sergeant, the rank of One stripe up is Private”
  • You will also need a concurrence form from your teachers saying that you at least have a 75% in each class and you have a decent moral system

(Yellow Worksheet)
  • The First Item after recertifying your previous knowledge from the past worksheets (you will do this when you are getting tested by your Platoon Sergeant, First Sergeant, Company Commander, and instructor)
  • Next is the extended rectangular formation, the entire command for this is on the front of the sheet
  • My recommendation for getting this learned is reading through it one time and then learning how to actually do these movements so that you can tie the commands with the actual movements which can make it a lot easier to remember
  • You must also learn two exercises to go along with the formation, you will be asked for a stretching and a stationary exercise, if you don’t know any you can always just google “military station and stretching exercises”, or just ask someone around you for what they used to get promoted ( I would recommend the overhead arm pull, and the 8-count push-up)
  • The next item is to attend two out of school activities, typically you could easily do this by attending the football games and guarding the gates, but since that would not be possible this year the next best option is keep our campus clean after school on Fridays for one hour
  • Besides those two options the next activity you could do is your companies service-learning project if there is a physical aspect to it, such as volunteering
  • For the next two items that you will need to know, which are one running and marching cadences, the absolute best way to do this is going into the classroom on the left side of the room in between the computers and the desk area, there is a shelf full of binders, the bright orange one is full of both running and marching cadences
  •  The 11 principles of leadership are probably the hardest item you will encounter on all of the worksheets, but let’s try to make it as easy as possible
    • The easiest way to memorize these are to repeat the bolded words to yourself either in your head or out loud seven times
    • There are many ways to make this easier to understand, one of these ways is to break up the principles into groups of two or three, on you have those memorized move on so that, that group of two or three becomes a grope of four or six
    • What I mean by this is to start by memorizing the first two principles memorized, then as you move on to the next principle keep repeating the first and second to yourself but just add the third
    • Keep doing this until you reach all eleven
    • To ensure that the information is stuck in your head step away from the sheet for about 20 minutes and focus on another task and then quiz yourself and see how many you remember
    • You will not need to memorize the definitions, but it is a good idea to at least read over them to know what the principles actually mean
  •   The next item on the list for you to need to know is how to properly instruct a uniform class, you can easily do this by going to https://www.nhsjrotc.com/uniform-class.html
  • The next item is to correctly march a squad, again this is pretty easy, the easiest way to do this is to go to drill practice after school on Tuesdays and Thursdays, just go ask anyone there how to march a squad and someone will teach you how to do it and you could probably get it done on that same day
  • The last item for the promotion to Sergeant is to make sure that all of your forms are turned in
